5 Of The Best Places To Visit In Houston

I have lived in Texas most of my life, and primarily in the Houston area.

Summers here can definitely be hot, muggy, and just down right miserable, but it is a great state to live in!

With Houston being basically a global hub for everything oil, space and medical we definitely have an extremely diverse population which I love! Especially when it comes to food. We have some of the best authentic and fusion restaurants there are.

With it being such a large city (I mean it takes over an hour just to cross the city) and having a tightly knit suburban area, there really is something here for everyone!

If you find yourself in the area, or any surrounding areas, here is a list of 5 things to do in Houston!

5 Things To Do In Houston, TX

Space Center Houston

Houston is home to NASA’s mission control center and space station control center. Most of the astronauts come here for training too.

Right next to the NASA campus is a really neat tourist attraction called Space Center Houston.

Space Center Houston is great for all ages to come and learn so much about NASA and space travel as a whole. AND there is a real spaceship here that you can tour! How awesome is that?!

There are tons of interactive activities for the kiddos, a museum for space lovers, and even has a tram tour that takes you through the NASA campus.

This place is wonderful for families since there really is something for everyone to do! If you’re in the area and have the slightest interest in space, I HIGHLY recommend giving this place a visit!

Downtown Aquarium

What’s better than a restaurant/aquarium combo?!

Honestly, not much.

The Houston Downtown Aquarium is home to a massive 500,000 gallon aquarium and hundreds of species of marine species. Plus, they have a 17th century shipwreck to explore, an indoor rain forest, and a hands on sting ray exhibit!

On top of all of that adventure, the also have an upscale restaurant and a full service bar for when your ready for dinner after a long day of fun!

It is the largest aquarium in the city and really fun for people of all ages!

Houston Museum of Natural Science

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is one of the most visited museums in the United States. It’s a huge multi-story building, with the most comprehensive list of exhibits I’ve seen in a museum.

Of course, they have the regular science exhibits, like dinosaur fossils and ancient artifacts, BUT they also have tons of other interesting exhibits as well. From a full gem exhibit to coastal ecology to a pendulum that knocks over a ring of pins throughout the day, there is an endless supply of things to see.

When you’re done with the regular exhibits, there is a large planetarium as well as a massive indoor butterfly center!

Living here, I go to this museum at least once per year because there is always something new to experience.

Houston Zoo

I LOVE zoos, and the Houston Zoo happens to be one of my favorites. The zoo is home to over 6,000 animals from all over the world.

They are all kept in amazing habitats and cared for wonderfully by the staff. You’ll even get to see some of the injured wildlife that the zoo rehabilitates and sends back into the wild. They even have a dedicated tank in their aquarium for sea turtle rehabs!

I love this zoo so much that I even purchased a membership so I can go as many times as I want! They are constantly updating habitats and making sure their animals are happy and healthy!

100% recommend stopping by here! But, make sure you have the time because it is HUGE!

Kemah Boardwalk

Kemah is a bit south of Houston located right on the coast of Galveston Bay!

Here the whole family will get to experience fun rides, games, shopping and dining all while overlooking the water of the bay.

Kemah has some wonderful dining options to fuel up after a long day of roller coasters and ferris wheels. It also includes a full shopping strip with everything from arcades to an art gallery and little stores with some coastal treasures.

The whole family will have a blast here at the closest amusement park to the city!

If you’re here for a visit, the best way to experience the greatest attractions in the city is by grabbing a Houston CityPass!

With it, you get tickets to every amazing attraction I have listed above at almost 50% off of face value for each place!

Houston CityPASS

I live here and I still purchase myself a CityPass when I’m looking for a weekend of fun. It’s such a great deal!

I hope you have an amazing time on your visit!

Keep an eye out for my future post listing some of the best restaurants in the area!

Love,
Jessica
