DIY Eucalyptus Sugar Scrub

DIY Aromatherapy Eucalyptus Sugar Scrub

Let me just start by saying that I LOVE body scrubs.

All of them.

And it’s just an even bigger bonus when I can make them at home with ingredients I already have in my pantry.

Secondly, I LOVE essential oils. Especially the minty smelling ones!

DIY Recipe for a eucalyptus sugar scrub

I’ll admit that I don’t really use essential oils for their benefits most of the time (I really just love the way they smell), BUT I do use eucalyptus for my sinuses.

It works amazingly and it’s good for you, so really a win-win situation here.

This past weekend we got hit with a mild cold front which covers us in Cedar pollen (which happens to be the ONLY pollen allergy I have).

Itchy/water eyes, sneezing, runny nose, the works.

I needed sinus relief pronto and my legs were ready for a decent scrubbing, so I decided to whip up a quick batch of my eucalyptus sugar scrub!

5 Foundation Mistakes You Might Be Making

This is my number one favorite recipe because I really love minty showers.

I’m not entirely sure why, maybe it just feels cleaner? I don’t know.

If you like the smell of eucalyptus, hot showers, and breathing through an un-stuffed nose, this recipe is for YOU!

One thing I really like about this particular recipe for it’s scrub properties is that it uses two types of sugars so you get two different grain sizes. In the end, I’m not sure it really makes that much of a difference, but it is fun to have a different textures.

This recipe makes 1 cup of scrub. I use about 1/3 of it 2 times per week.

If you keep it in a closed container and store it in a cool dry place (i.e. not sitting in your shower) it will stay good for about 6 months. If you still have some sitting around by then I definitely recommend throwing it out and making a new batch!

I also wanted to throw a disclaimer in here that eucalyptus essential oil is very dangerous for cats and dogs. Don’t let your adventurous eaters have a taste! If you’re using it in a steamy shower, keep the door closed and them in a separate room. It;s especially harmful for a cats respiratory system, so just keep that in mind and keep your babies safe.

Okay, now that is out of the way and we can move on the the recipe!

If you only have one type of sugar around, that’s totally fine. Just substitute it for both sugar amounts.

It’s best to keep it in a mason jar like this one and in a cabinet where it’s dry. I also recommend using a spoon to keep water out of it, since water will greatly lessen the storage time.

That’s really it! Just scoop it out and rub everywhere to make your skin super smooth. Combine it with a steamy shower and you have some amazing sinus relief aroma therapy!

I make a batch of this anytime I get a head cold, allergy issues, or when I have a headache. Eucalyptus helps with so many things!

What are your favorite bath scents? I’d love to know!
