Queen of country music Reba McEntire said "no thanks" to a collaboration with Jessica Simpson for her new CD, Reba Duets, which debuted at number one reports OK! Magazine. While Jessica Simpson could have used the boost the report claims it was a no-go from Reba. The classy singing legend personally approached young pop stars including Kelly Clarkson and Justin Timberlake, but when Jess, 27 – who hopes to make it as a country singer – contacted Reba about appearing on the album, no one from Reba's team responded, the report claims. "Jess thought she had been passed over because Reba would be singing with older, more established artists," a source close to Jessica tells OK. "She was devastated when she found out that Kelly Clarkson was invited to be part of the project." Jessica and Ashlee Simpson are set to duet, after Ashlee revealed they are currently writing songs together. The sisters - who have each forged their own successful solo careers - have been writing songs together for years and are now considering teaming up in the recording studio. Ashlee told E! Online, "We write well together. I can't say never, but she's definitely got her own style, and I have my own style. But who knows?" The 'Pieces of Me' singer also lent her support to troubled singer Britney Spears, who has faced a barrage of criticism following her disastrous performance at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month. Ashlee - who was caught lip synching on her 'live' performance on 'Saturday Night Live' in 2004 - said, "To tell you the truth, I have not seen the performance. I was actually sitting upstairs, so I can't say anything on it-but I wish her the best. "I think we all have our ups and our downs, and you have got to look for the positive side of things." The reason is simple, says their dad and manager, Joe Simpson. "We have a real family," he told me Monday. "You can’t just put these kids out in the world and they’re on their own. I can remember a time when Jessica was singing at Madison Square Garden and her outfit ripped before she went on. We were there for her." Jessica Simpson's plans to go country have been given a boost - WilliE Nelson has agreed to pen tracks for her next album. The pop star/actress' manager-father Joe Simpson revealed his daughter's plans to record a country album in a recent interview - and the With You singer insists she's completely serious. The pretty Texan says, "My next album is probably going to be with Willie Nelson. I've been wanting to do a country record because it's in my roots." Jessica Simpson's acting career has been given a boost - her new co-star in Blonde Ambition insists the pop star is one of the most professional people she has even met on a film set. Actress Rachael Leigh Cook admits she feared Simpson would be an ill-prepared diva, surrounded by an entourage - but she was more than pleasantly surprised. The Josie + The Pussycats star tells online gossip columnist Marc Malkin, "She was really sweet and cool. I was really taken by surprise how reserved she is. "She's really open about saying, `This is my first time having more than 10 lines in a movie. I'm kind of new here.' "She took the job really seriously. She wasn't out partying all the time... The rumours began after U.S. magazine 'More' published a story on Simpson's eagerness to become a mother. Sexy Jessica Simpson is wearing full army fatigues and packing an M16 in her new comedy, 'Major Movie Star,' and ET's on the set! "At the beginning of 'Major Movie Star' it is glamorous because I'm doing the whole red carpet and everything -- but you will definitely see a transformation," Jessica tells our own Kevin Frazier. "I mean, pretty much everyday we've had to wear dirt and mud on our faces." Remind you of another blonde at basic? Try Goldie Hawn in 1980's 'Private Benjamin.' "I adore Goldie," says Jessica. "I think she has a career I would aspire to have. She definitely makes us blondes look really great." Just like basic training, shooting the film has been no picnic, with temperatures reaching 104 degrees in the shade. "Louisiana in the summer is hot," she explains. Jessica Simpson is ready to add another accessory to her always-stylish look – a cowboy hat. The singer is "talking about doing a country record and going back to her roots, being from Texas," Jessica's father and manager, Joe Simpson, told PEOPLE at Hard Rock Hotel's Rolling Stone party in Las Vegas. "Everything in our business is about beats and I think she really wants to sing," he said, "and country music still believes in that." Simpson, 27, recently finished filming Major Movie Star and is turning her thoughts back to her music. Her last album, 2006's "Public Affair," hit the Top 20, but quickly fell off the charts. "She's a singer from top to bottom," Joe Simpson said. "And everything in the music business, especially pop music, has moved away from singers. Facing sluggish sales at its 850 department stores, Macy's Inc. plans to bring television viewers this fall ads that feature 11 cultural icons and American entertainers. The effort to woo shoppers to mall-based department stores - particularly the 400 stores once owned by May Department Store Co. - hinges on the appeal of products and brands backed by celebrities such as Donald Trump, Diddy and Usher, Martha Stewart and Jessica Simpson. The campaign, which pokes fun at the celebrities, has mogul Trump blow-drying his distinctive hair and pop singer Simpson confused about whether to push or pull a Macy's door. Martha fusses with many of the 2,000 Stewart-branded products now on Macy's shelves as Usher boasts to her about his two fragrances. The campaign - which has been reported to cost $100 million although Reardon denies it's that much - launches on Sept. 16. Twice
now Jessica Simpson has been in Northwest Louisiana filming two different
movies. The first movie, 'Blonde Ambition', was filmed in January. The
other, 'Major Movie Star', was filmed just this past summer. While
Simpson says she likes Louisiana, the weather she can pass on.
"It's very hot here in Louisiana in the summer, it's hot!"
She says some of the bugs gave her the creepy crawlies. "I've had
everything crawl up in my hair, people are getting ticks and all kinds of
stuff." In this latest movie Simpson's character, Megan Valentine,
goes from actress to private in a sort of 'Private Benjamin' remake. She
says, "at the beginning of major movie star it is glamorous because I
am a movie star. I'm doing the whole red carpet and everything." That
red carpet scene was shot at the Strand Theatre in downtown Shreveport
last month. Simpson says it's the best movie she's done so far. "I
have enjoyed myself on this movie pretty much more than anything, I've
ever done. I have had such a great time." 'Major Movie Star' isn't
due to be released until sometime next year. Some of the army scenes
