Jess and Owen arrived separately, amid heavy security, around 10 pm and chatted for about an hour. An X17 eyewitness says: they looked cozy, like it was a first date. They both looked kind of nervous. And they were obsessed with not being recognized or photographed. Hotel security was on high alert and they both had escorts when they left. Singer/actress Jessica Simpson has become the latest in a long line of female celebrities to launch her own perfume. The star, 27, has signed a deal with Parlux fragrances - the company behind Paris Hilton's scent range - with Simpson joining the likes of Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez and Sarah Jessica Parker with her new smelly sideline. The as-yet-unnamed perfume is expected to hit shelves in summer next year (08). But it's not Simpson's first foray into the cosmetic world - the star released beauty range Dessert in 2004, which promised to make the wearer "look and feel as good as you taste."

Wednesday night's Frederick's of Hollywood 2008 Spring Collection fashion show unveiled an eye-popping display of … high-maintenance divas! Red carpet reporters standing outside the Hollywood Palladium were alerted that Jessica Simpson would be arriving, but had consented only to smile and wave. She ignored journalists as she hurried inside the historic venue, which will soon close its doors for an extensive renovation. Inside, Simpson sipped her drink and danced with her longtime hairstylist, Ken Paves, who united with Simpson's personal assistant to keep everyone else away. After Simpson viewed a parade of runway models displaying corsets designed by celebrities, a request was made for her to share her favorite moment of the evening. But her protectors stepped in and said she had only just arrived, as Simpson, who had been there for an hour, sat next to them in silence.

If laughter is the best medicine, Owen Wilson is well on his way to recovery. The actor showed his comic side again, joining brothers Luke and Andrew along with Jessica Simpson, Willie Nelson, Woody Harrelson and Dan Rather for a lawn mower-riding competition in Texas. The Bad Boy Lawn Mower Race, held at Nelson's homestead near Austin last week, was part of a music-video shoot for his new song, "You Don't Think I'm Funny Anymore," reports the Austin American-Statesman. Photos from the shoot, featuring Harrelson and Owen Wilson in cowboy hats and action shots from the race, were posted Friday on a Nelson fan blog. The men rode orange lawn mowers, while Simpson was given a flashy pink one.

Jessica Simpson, who has been talking about recording a country album, got to chat with a legend of rock 'n' roll – former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant – at a taping of CMT's Crossroads near Nashville on Thursday night. Simpson, 27, and Plant, 59, hung out backstage at the Lebanon, Tenn., studio where Plant was recording an episode of the show with Alison Krauss. (The two have an album together, Raising Sand, due out on Tuesday.) Simpson is gearing up to record a new album of her own – most likely a country record, which is why she's exploring Nashville, a friend of the singer's tells PEOPLE. "She's prepping for her new album," says the source. "She's spending time there and figuring it out." Simpson arrived at the taping with her father-manager, Joe Simpson, after spending a few days in town meeting with industry insiders. She had lunch at the Palm with John Rich of country music duo Big & Rich and also reportedly met with executives at Sony BMG.

Jessica's Dukes of Hazzard co-star Willie Nelson is going to help her make her first country album, and Jessica is currently in town meeting artists, like John Rich and Vince Gill, as well as Music Row execs, including Sony BMG honchos, and songwriters Aimee Mayo ("Amazed") and Hillary Lindsey ("Jesus, Take the Wheel") Word is that Creative Artists Agency agent-to-the-stars Rod Essig — who handles Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Reba McEntire among others — has been Jessica's guide around town. No word on a label, a producer or a release date. At new tequila-bar hotspot Agave this week, Jessica's tablemates included Kellie Pickler, John Rich, her dad/manager Joe Simpson and Hank Williams, Jr.'s daughters Hilary and Holly Williams.

Love hasn't always been kind to Jessica Simpson – even since her divorce from Nick Lachey – but the singer and actress says there's something empowering about the disillusionment that comes with heartbreak. "I've had my heart broken since my divorce," Simpson, 27, tells InStyle for its November issue, perhaps referring to her relationship with John Mayer, which ended in June. "That's OK. I believe you fall in love more than once and get your heart broken more than once. Trust me, I have cried myself to sleep." Simpson says she once felt like "the princess in the fairy tale – then reality came crashing in, and I learned that isn't always how life works." Still, in the bigger picture, that may be a valuable lesson to learn. Nowadays, Simpson says, "I am in complete control of my life." In the InStyle piece, Simpson answers questions from friends and family. When sister Ashlee asks what she likes most about having a younger sister, Jessica says it's that they can lean on each other. "I go to my sister for advice all the time, mostly about guys, life or how to deal with an argument with Mom or Dad," she says. "You'd think she was older. I had to go through life first, and she saw the choices I made, good or bad. She can look at my life and be, like, 'OK, I'm not gonna do it this way.' I might be a little more jaded, but it's exciting for me to see her making good choices." According to reports, the buxom blonde will be featuring in new infomercials for the company that will air close to Christmas. "She did re-sign for another year. "It's sort of like making art with a cocktail umbrella," he says wryly. Simpson recently finished filming Major Movie Star and is now thinking about creating a country album, according to her father and manager, Joe Simpson. After spending a few nights clubbing and dining around town, the 27-year-old singer-actress was spotted searching for the dwelling of her dreams. "I'm looking at places because my record label is in New York and I want to be close to that and I'm singing again," she confirmed to PEOPLE at the Operation Smile 25th Anniversary Gala in Beverly Hills on Friday. "I'm looking forward to it." Which neighborhood she'll choose is still up in the air. Simpson was looking at condos in the $2 to $12 million-range all over Manhattan, according to TMZ.com. As one of the faces of Operation Smile, which provides medical surgery to children who suffer from facial birth defects and can't afford treatment, Simpson traveled to Kenya where she used her musical talent to help lull the children to sleep. "I've been in the hospital with the kids ... Most of them are babies, so I can sing them lullabies," she said.

A "really hungry" Jessica Simpson, requesting the most private table at Philadelphia eatery Alma de Cuba. A source tells us that the singer thought the restaurant was "adorable" – and she ordered a calamari salad and verde empanada followed by vaca frita and chicken arepas. Simpson (and her dining companion) then ordered a second helping of vaca frita, a side of black beans and rice. Not that she wanted anyone to notice: A nearby table of 10 recognized her and requested a picture, but Simpson politely declined.
