Jessica Simpson hit New York Wednesday night with a thunderclap. She headed straight to the Waverly Inn with mom Tina and record company prez Charlie Walk. Jessica told me she’s meeting with none other than Queen of Country Dolly Parton next week about doing a duet on the album. She’s also working with writer/producer John Shanks. In other words: she’s taking country seriously. Fans of the genre needn’t worry. Indeed, when talked turned to Vince Gill, Jessica told me: "We love Vince Gill. Even more, I love Amy Grant, his wife. She’s the reason I got into singing at all. When I first started, I sang Christian music. Amy was my role model." She cited one of this column’s favorite videos, Grant’s "Baby Baby." And Jessica has a sense of humor. When I asked her to please stay away from the NFL, I added: "But if you want to date Tom Brady for a couple of days, it’s OK." After all, maybe she could help the Giants beat the Patriots! She declined, however. And where are Jessica’s dad, Joe, and sister, Ashlee? Working on a club tour to get ready for the April release of Ashlee’s new album. These Simpsons never rest!

He may have missed out on leading his team to the Super Bowl, but Tony Romo proved he’s still a rock star on Monday night in Los Angeles. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback accompanied by his lady love, Jessica Simpson, to Metal Skool — a spandex and hairspray friendly weekly show at Sunset Boulevard’s famed Key Club. After some less-than-friendly chants from the crowd, Romo was prompted to hit the stage with Simpson and her mane-man, Ken Paves, to join the band — also called Metal Skool, on stage. Romo then proceeded to grab the mic and rock out hair metal style alongside Metal Skool’s Michael Starr, Satchel, Lexxi Foxxx and Stix Zadina to the Journey classic "Don’t Stop Believing." Though she eeked out a smile, Simpson seemed to hide behind her man as he butchered the air guitar classic. Simpson seemed less cuddly when Romo attempted and failed to match some Axl Rose style wailing in the Guns ‘N Roses standard, "Sweet Child O’ Mine." Watch the video here

Jessica Simpson was at the Key Club for a Metalskool concert (they’re a 1980s metal band)… not really the kind of gig you’d expect her to be at. Jessica was aided by her BFF/hairstylist Ken Paves, as well as her Dallas Cowboys stud boyfriend Tony Romo as she made her way to the waiting SUV. And according to Simpson’s rep, the OK! magazine story reporting that Jess and Tony broke up was “utterly false.” Cindi Berger told press, “I’ve spoken to both Jess and Tony, and they are completely secure in their relationship and won’t let this garbage get under their skin!  That rag completely fabricated and made up this story."

A family-run Beamsville-based company is helping create a glass castle for a pop princess. The exclusive 40-unit, 14-storey building, called One York Street, is being built near the neighbourhoods of Tribeca and Soho, two of New York City's most affluent areas. Prices for condos in the glass building - to be wedged between two 150-year-old buildings - are running as high as $25 million US. Project manager John Neudorf said Simpson created a buzz when she checked out the building - designed by famed Mexican architect Enrique Norten - last fall. "She was looking at it and everyone was all excited, but I don't actually know for sure that (the deal's) been signed," Neudorf said. "They're still dry-walling at this point. The apartment won't be ready until June." But there's talk that Simpson is likely to move in, he said. The 27-year-old songstress and star of films such as The Dukes of Hazard looked at a modest two-bedroom apartment with views of Canal Street, he said. The price tag? About $10 million. The Simpson connection excited Neudorf's 14-year-old daughter, Savannah. In her school newspaper, The Beamsville Beat, Savannah wrote: "Jessica Simpson was buying this specific apartment my dad was working on. Jessica Simpson is fighting mad about an OK! magazine article about her relationship with Tony Romo -- and she's called in the dogs -- aka, her lawyers. Jess is pissed over an article titled "Jessica Dumped!" that appeared in the February 4 issue of the mag. The article claims Tony dumped Jessica after his team was eliminated from the NFL playoffs. Simpson's attorneys say the article is "utterly false" and "is based on nothing more than rumor, gossip and innuendo." The article also claims Jessica's sister Ashlee has attempted to "distance herself" from her sis. The lawyers say that's B.S. too. Simpson's lawyers have sent a letter to OK!'s Editor-in-Chief, Sarah Ivens, claiming OK!'s article is bogus, adding that Jess and Tony are still together and that Ashlee and Jessica remain close. The attorneys say the article reflects a "smear campaign" and has subjected Simpson to "public contempt, ridicule, aversion or disgrace." The lawyers want OK! to "immediately publish a prominent and unambiguous" retraction.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has dumped Jessica Simpson, OK! magazine reported Thursday. Dallas fans accused the entertainer of being a distraction to Romo and she was cast as a scapegoat after the Cowboys, who went 13-3 in the regular season, were sent packing in a surprise 21-17 playoff loss to the New York Giants.  "Tony is now starting to blame her himself," an unidentified friend of Romo's told OK! magazine. "Before dating Jessica, he was Texas's golden boy. Now he's become a joke." OK! magazine reported that shortly after the Cowboys' Super Bowl hopes were dashed by the Giants, Romo phoned Simpson to end the affair. The source also said Romo wanted them to remain friends. The breakup came about after the couple couldn't agree on living arrangements — Romo refused to move to Los Angeles, and Simpson refused to leave. A story stating that Jessica Simpson and her current love interest, NFL star Tony Romo, are teaming up for a duet on her new country record is false, according to her rep. The story originated in US publication the National Enquirer, with an unnamed 'source' telling the tabloid, "Jessica has been schooled in publicity tricks by her manager dad, Joe, and she knows that a duet with Tony will attract major attention." The Celebrity Truth checked with Simpson's representative, Lauren Auslander, who denied the rumor saying, "There are no plans for them to do this." Simpson has been recording her debut country album in Nashville. The album which is slated for release later this year.

"From what I've been told, Jessica is finalizing a deal to appear in a play written by Dixie Sedgwick to portray none other than Bonnie Parker, of Bonnie and Clyde fame, in the Off Broadway premiere of Sedgwick's "Bonnie Parker". Jess had expressed interest in playing the outlaw, also from Texas, as early as 2005. But the one obstacle in her way is Papa Joe, who doesn't want her "good girl" image to be tarnished by a "scandalous" role (the play includes a semi-nude scene). Reps for the Simpson family could not be contacted."

The new year has barely begun, and it's already heavily populated with movies about working women getting theirs or at least getting even, on the job. Jessica Simpson arrives to grab some nine to five workplace attention on screen, in Scott Marshall's Blonde Ambition. The movie opened briefly in December in Simpson's home state of Texas, and is now out on DVD this month. Jessica Simpson gets it pretty much right as an easily suckered though far from lame brained country girl, who needs to learn fast how to sidestep all the pitfalls and potential sharks prowling the dog-eat-dog big city. And she tackles the role of a sympathetic and comically naive character, while narrowly just missing slipping into the idiotic dumb blonde routine. Though her character could have done well with some serious toning down of the clownish clothes and lightening up of the far too lavishly applied lipstick. Jessica Simpson is red-hot mad about her boyfriend's ongoing friendship with his ex-girlfriend, Carrie Underwood. Carrie and Tony have remained friends since they split over six months ago so that Tony could focus on football. But sources are saying that Jessica demands so much attention that she made her new beau change his email address and telephone number so his ex-girlfriend couldn't contact him. This seems a little overboard (even for Jess), so we're skeptical to believe it's true. Jessica is an attention whore but we're pretty sure she wouldn't go to those lengths to ruin Tony and Carrie's friendship. Regardless, the source tells OK! magazine the following: "Carrie is a total threat to Jessica. Jessica called Carrie and told her to keep away from Tony."  Again, we're not really buying this at all. It just doesn't seem like Jess to call up someone she barely knows to mark her territory. We're not saying it isn't true, we're just doubtful. Another source close to Jess told the magazine that "She [Jessica] needs so much attention that it's impossible to date her."

Dear Dallas and Surrounding Areas,
This isn't a sports blog, and it isn't a publicity stunt. (but have at me if it feels right.) This is about doing what I think is right as a person, in this case speaking my mind. I have never known anyone to have more pride in their home state and their upbringing in it than Jessica Simpson has in Texas. I don't really follow sports, but I have played some of my biggest and best concerts in your state, and having witnessed how dynamic the spirit there is, I'm betting emotions are running high right about now. All witty barbs, blogs, and fashion policing aside, that girl loves Texas more than you know. It's one of her most defining traits as a person. So please don't try and take that away from her. (You probably wouldn't be able to, but it's less work for all involved.) I just thought it would mean something coming from the guy who has the absolute least to gain from this. And if I'm out of line in having written it, too bad. I can spare a Wednesday's worth of bad press if it means sticking up for a good soul.

Only, Longoria's been there first – and long before Simpson got labeled a jinx on boyfriend Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys, Longoria felt the heat for seeing now-husband Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs. "When I first started dating Tony (Parker), I got the same flack, and this was so many years ago that people don't remember," Longoria told PEOPLE on Saturday. "If he had a bad game, it was my fault, if he got injured, it was my fault, if he had a good game, it wasn't because of me." Longoria's advice to her fellow Texan: "You have to weather that for a while, and once people get over it, they kind of get used to you. Believe me, they are not thinking of us when they are on the field, particularly Tony Romo, who has 10 linemen coming at him," said Longoria, 32, while promoting her upcoming film Over Her Dead Body. "Do you think that he is really thinking about Jessica the moment that he is about to get sacked?" Still, Simpson appears to be taking no chances. Jessica Simpson gets tired of going out with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, there's a gap-toothed New York Giants defensive end who wouldn't mind a date with the singer-actress. Veteran Michael Strahan came to Romo's defense on Thursday, saying the young heartthrob had every right to go to a Mexico resort with Simpson and other teammates during the Cowboys' recent bye week. "You guys love to say, 'Oh, he is coming off the beach and he is dating Jessica Simpson' — please!" Strahan said during a news conference Thursday after the Giants practiced for Sunday's game against the Cowboys in the NFC semifinal. "Heck, if Jessica Simpson wanted to date me, I may give her a shot," said the recently divorced Strahan. Strahan said he couldn't blame Romo for the trip. "If he wanted to sit in Dallas, they would have found some fault in that because he would have been with her if they had pictures of them in Dallas," Strahan said. "So for them to go to Cabo or wherever they went, good for them. They deserve that time off." Strahan insisted the vacation also would not affect Romo's play this weekend. "I think anybody who thinks that because he took a few days with his girlfriend that he is going to come back and not play well or he is not going to be prepared if anything it probably stokes his fire to play even better."

This just in from in-house Overheardian Molly Nolan: "Last night at Borders books in West Village I was standing near the front and in walked a cute blonde I saw out of the corner of my eye. I could tell she was with someone and low and behold it was…. Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo! She had on a pink sweatshirt and jeans with high heeled clogs, a blue striped scarf around her head, wrapped as a bandana, and her hair was sort of curly sort of straight, but not at all “done”, she really didn’t even have much make-up on- I hate her for that b/c she still looked good. She was holding a big burnt orange and black purse in the crook of her elbow. Tony had on a shorts (you know b/c it is January in Dallas), a long sleeve shirt and baseball cap. I was still waiting for Joe to walk in but he didn’t. They went straight for the magazines. And I even heard her say to him as she rubbed her belly that she was ’so full’." READ MORE

The beautiful bad-luck charm and gal pal of Dallas quarterback Tony Romo will not attend Sunday's Giants-Cowboys playoff clash, her rep said. This is a huge blow to superstitious Giants fans, who desperately wanted Simpson there to jinx her golden-boy signal caller. "She is not attending, she's working on a new album," said Cindy Berger, publicist for the dishy distraction. "She will not be there, but she'll be watching [on TV] and cheering [Romo] on." Romo's worst game this season happened when Simpson was in the stands watching him, wearing a pink Cowboys jersey with his No. 9 on it. Maybe not-so-coincidentally, Romo's poorest performance last season was when his then-squeeze -- "American Idol" Carrie Underwood -- was in the stands. "Ouch" said Giants fan Zach Curran, 26, of Jersey City at the ESPN Zone yesterday, upon hearing that Simpson would be a no-show Sunday. "The Giants needed her like a [12th] man or a secret weapon."

But according to New York Post's gossip column PageSix, Simpson decided to cancel her stay at the Four Seasons hotel and instead jet to Mexico to spend time with her parents and Romo's Dallas Cowboys teammates. It was later revealed that Lachey was booked into the luxurious Exclusive Resorts complex in Costa Rica, right next to the hotel where Simpson had been due to stay.

Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo spent a very lovey-dovey New Year's Eve together at Ghostbar in Dallas, according to our source. "Jessica was very touchy-feely, and he definitely didn't shy away from her," says our PDA spy. The very next day, the two were back out being affectionate in public when they caught a showing of Atonement.
