Jessica Simpson has decamped to Nashville to begin work on her debut country album, due sometime in 2008 via Columbia Nashville. Simpson declined to name songwriting collaborators, but tells Billboard.com she will most definitely be involved in the creative process. "Writing is a release for me," she says. "It's a way for me to tell my story. That's not to say I wouldn't record a song that I didn't write. It's just that it has been a while since I have opened the book." But why country, and why now? "I am a country girl," she says. "I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to make a country album, but I wanted to wait until the time was right." "I think there is a strength in female country artists," Simpson adds, citing Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Reba McEntire as some of her inspirations. Asked what has surprised her most since starting the follow-up to 2006's "A Public Affair," Simpson says, "Nashville is a very warm city. The people are friendly and kind. There is a sense of community, which thrives on music. There is no animosity ... only respect for one another's talent." It's unclear if Simpson will hit the road in support of the as-yet-untitled country project, but she says, "Since the record is in the beginning stages, there hasn't been much talk about a tour just yet."

Jessica Simpson gave jailed actor Lane Garrison something to smile about over Christmas - she reportedly gifted the former Prison Break star with a colour TV. Garrison, who is serving a 40-month prison sentence for a drink driving accident that cost a teenage passenger his life, was granted access to a TV in his cell for good behaviour, but didn't have the funds to buy one. So Simpson, who grew up with Garrison, offered to buy her troubled friend the TV, according to In Touch Weekly magazine.

Tony Romo has admitted he is “hurt” by fans reaction to Jessica Simpson coming to watch him play. The singer received heat after attending a Dallas Cowboys game as fans thought her presence contributed to Romo’s bad performance. RuinRomo.com urged fans of other teams to wear Jessica Simpson masks to the next Cowboys game. Romo told reporters that the singer was bothered by the negative reaction and admitted he was hurt over it also. “I don’t care how the perception is of me. But it hurts me when it hurts people that are close to me…That’s part of being in the public eye,” said Romo. Simpson was not spotted at the Cowboys game this Saturday, but Romo hinted that she was present. Terrell Owens has another message for Jessica Simpson: I'm sorry. The outspoken Dallas Cowboys wide receiver said Wednesday that he was kidding when he said Simpson was a distraction to Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and said he has apologized to Romo, the Dallas Morning News reported. He added that he also hopes to speak to Simpson. "I tried to get [Romo] to call her so I can explain to her that she doesn't really know me and that I can be funny," Owens said, according to the newspaper. "And that everything I say, the media will take it and run with it. It's not a big deal. I will try to rectify the situation between her and I." Later Wednesday, Owens struck a different tone. "No, I'm not trying to be a distraction," he said, according to the report. "I understand how everybody is looking at Jessica Simpson as a distraction and that's definitely not how I saw it. Simpson has become Public Ememy No.1 among Dallas Cowboys fans because of a link being made between her appearance at Sunday's game and the poor performance of her new boyfriend, quarterback Tony Romo. "Right now, Jessica Simpson is not a fan favorite — in this locker room or in Texas Stadium," Owens said Wednesday. The Cowboys lost 10-6 to the Philadelphia Eagles and Romo had what was statistically the worst game of his career, all while Simpson sat in a luxury box wearing a pink No. 9 jersey she proudly showed off for television cameras. The problem for her is, Romo's previous worst game came last December at home to the Eagles when then-girlfriend Carrir Underwood was in attendance. Sports fans are a notoriously superstitious lot, and down in Dallas, they're beginning to wonder if bad luck has arrived in the form of a certain blonde movie star. With Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo struggling on Sunday in a loss to Philadelphia, some die-hards are casting a wary eye at Jessica Simpson, who watched the game from a luxury box in a pink No. 9 jersey. "Is Jessica Simpson the football version of Memo Paris, the blonde bombshell who was kryptonite to Roy Hobbs' Wonderboy in The Natural?" wondered The 'Boys Blog, a top Cowboys fan site, in a post after Sunday's 10-6 loss. The post continued: "Everybody's due a bad day at the office, but if Romo plays like this next week, Jessica Simpson will become the most hated celebrity significant other since Yoko Ono." Tim Cowlishaw, a columnist for The Dallas Morning News, was more inclined to give the 27-year-old actress a pass. “‘Major Movie Star’ isn’t financed by a big studio, it’s financed by [Papa Joe Productions], her father’s production company. He doesn’t have the kind of pull with Hollywood he needs save this film,” said one source, who hinted that Jessica’s daddy even tried to get “Major Movie Star” into the Sundance Film Festival. “Even Joe has realized it’s not worth funneling all this money into her acting projects. He decided when it comes to movies, he’s not going to spend another penny.” Jessica's rep insists that the film will not go straight to DVD, but will be “opening in multiple theatres in Dallas,” and that Millenium Films, which is also involved in “Major Movie Star,” never releases their films wide. That said, there are still signs of spending cuts at Papa Joe Productions. Among the first luxuries to go: photo shoots. “One of Jessica’s shoots can cost upwards of $50,000 to $60,000,” said one person who’s been involved with her shoots in the past. “The movie poster for ‘Blonde Ambition’ is an outtake from her ‘Public Affair’ album shoot, and take a look at the ‘Major Movie Star’ poster — it’s not hard to tell that is actually her GQ cover.” Indeed, Jessica is in the same pose, wearing the same dog tags, and her hair is identical. Jessica Simpson was certainly as glamorous as any Dallas Cheerleader Sunday night, with her perfectly coiffed hair and miniature Tony Romo jersey emblazoned with a pink number 9. But she wasn't exactly a good luck charm. Her new boyfriend struggled all game, throwing three interceptions and fumbling the ball twice as his heavily favored Cowboys lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 10-6. At one point, the network even showed a montage of Simpson, 27, spliced with shots of Romo's bad throws. As commentator Joe Buck noted, "It's never easy to play in front of your girlfriend."That seems especially true for Romo. The 27-year-old Pro-Bowler ended the game with a quarterback rating of just 22.2 – that's the worst ever in his entire career. (In comparison, his average rating this year is over 100.) His previous low? Last December, when then-girlfriend Carrie Underwood was in the stands. His latest performance is sure to anger some of the always-outspoken Dallas diehards. In fact, the backlash may have already begun. According to the Dallas Morning News, Romo was heckled outside the arena last night by a female fan who shouted, "Worry about the game, not your girlfriend!"

Jessica Simpson's film Blonde Ambition, costarring Luke Wilson, will be hitting theaters after all – with a limited run in Simpson's home state of Texas, the movie's studio confirms to People. "The film is being released theatrically on Dec. 21," says Elizabeth Wolfe, a spokeswoman for both Nu Image/Millennium Films, the film's production company, and First Look Distribution, which will distribute the romantic comedy. Aside from Simpson and Wilson, the cast also includes Andy Dick, Rachael Leigh Cook and Penelope Ann Miller. News of the film's theatrical release comes following reports that the film was getting the direct-to-DVD treatment in late January, skipping theaters altogether. Says Wolfe: "It is being released in this crowded marketplace in eight theaters in Texas. The reason we chose Texas is the two stars are from Texas: Jessica Simpson and Luke Wilson. As an independent studio, we, as a rule, don't have major wide releases. It's a very common release practice for independent studios." Wolfe adds that the studio isn't ruling out a wider rollout. "Once it opens, we'll assess how well it did." As for Simpson's performance, Wolfe says, "It is a very cute film that Jessica fans will love and be thrilled with. We've done a second film with Jessica, Major Movie Star [slated for 2008 release], and we have all the confidence in her."

A friend of Romo told Chicago Suntimes that the gifts have included figurines that he picks up at the drugstore, Baccarat crystal vases "filled with gorgeous red roses," jewelry and a "fun" sports watch. "He also got a store to rush an engraving order on a sterling silver picture frame with their initials to give her a photo of the two of them, taken over Thanksgiving weekend," the friend adds. The stars were asked to use the word 'hope' as the inspiration behind their designs. 'Dukes of Hazzard' actress Jessica decorated her boots with butterflies and flowers while 'Desperate Housewives' star Eva opted for hearts and her own signature. The Stride Rite Corp. announced Tuesday that it will begin to design, develop, manufacture and distribute a Jessica Simpson branded footwear for kids. The Lexington, Mass.-based footwear company has entered into an exclusive multi-year global licensing agreement with the Camuto Group, a Connecticut firm that is the master licensee for the Jessica Simpson collection. Currently, the pop star maintains a line of women's shoes, boots and handbags. The collection will take a cue from her women's line in children-specific silhouettes. The line will debut in major department stores and specialty retailers nationwide including Stride Rite stores during the Holiday 2008 season, according to a release from Stride Rite officials.

TMZ has the first video of clandestine couple Jessica Simpson and QB Tony Romo -- together! Daisy Duke and the Dallas Cowboy hitched a ride on a jet at Love Field in Dallas late last night and headed to Hollywood. They landed within shooting distance -- at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank. They've gone out of their way to avoid being seen together, and up to now they've pulled it off. They reportedly spent Thanksgiving dinner together with a turkey bigger than Britney's "Blackout" CD.

Jessica Simpson has denied reports she has recently undergone a cosmetic lip plump - but admits she has had work done in the past. The pop star's publicist is playing down stories that suggest Simpson received lip injections last week (ends30Nov07). The aide tells America's People magazine, "Jessica did not have anything done to her lips. "She tried (injectable gel) Restylane some time ago and did not like the way that it looked or felt, so she has not had anything done since."

Did Jessica Simpson’s father, Joe Simpson, hook up the pop star and Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo? It appears Joe was the middle man that lead to Tony landing a date with his daughter Jessica, according to a report the New York Post. “Joe and Tony have been friendly for a while. Joe is a huge Dallas Cowboy fan, and Tony has always had a crush on her - he even said on his Web site like a year ago that it was his dream to date her,” a source close to Jessica told the New York Post . It appears geography also played it’s part in Jessica and Tony becoming an item. “Jessica has been in Nashville and Dallas recording her new country album. When Tony found out, he called Joe and said, ‘I know she’s not dating anyone right now, can I take her out for a drink at least?‘ Jessica said it was OK for Joe to give Tony her number and they hit it off. They’ve been dating for a couple of weeks now, and Jessica is so happy. She’s been texting everyone about how great he is,” the source added. Jessica is just the latest starlet who has been romantically linked to the football star. Following his break-up from country cutie Carrie Underwood and and “One Tree Hill” siren Sophia Bush. Though Romo was reportedly linked to Britney Spears, Brit’s pal Alli Simms told People. “The story is untrue. Tony is a gentleman, and Britney wouldn’t do that, especially to a good friend of mine.” Coincidentally, before dating Underwood earlier this year, back in November 2006, Jessica was the first celebrity Tony was linked to when he first burst onto the NFL scene. A rep for Jessica declined to comment on her personal life but said, “She is happily recording her country album.”
